Siobhan Magnus is honored to be compared to Adam Lambert & sings "Summertime" on The Wendy Williams Show

American Idol Season 9 Top 6 finalist Siobhan Magnus appears on the Wendy Williams Show. After Wendy gives us a spelling lesson, Siobhan tells us of one of the 'crazy renditions' of her name she's heard. They go on to discuss Siobhan's 'scream' and Siobhan tell us it's an honor to be compared to Adam Lambert.

Siobhan hits the stage, and gives a stirring performance of "Summertime". "Summertime" is an aria composed by George Gershwin for the 1935 opera Porgy & Bess. The song soon became a popular jazz standard.

Gershwin is said to have based this song on a Ukrainian lullaby, Oi Khodyt Son Kolo Vikon (A Dream Passes By The Windows), which he heard in a New York City performance of the Ukrainian National Chorus.

Gershwin began composing the song in December 1933, attempting to create his own spiritual in the style of the African American folk music of the period. It is sung multiple times throughout Porgy and Bess, first by Clara in Act I as a lullaby and soon after as counterpoint to the craps game scene, in Act II in a reprise by Clara, and in Act III by Bess, singing to Clara's baby.

"Summertime" has been recorded, covered or sampled by everyone from Sublime (Doin' Time), to Fantasia Barrino, Eva Cassidy, Bing Crosby and Ella Fitzgerald.

  1. I don't know she could use another voice to sing. It was really different from the way she sang in American Idols. Though it was not perfect but good job!

  3. Oh my god, her tone is beautiful.

I'm going to try to be objective though, her voice faltered a bit in a few spots. I heard she wasn't feeling too well at the time, y'know with all the interviews, performances and according to her father a bit of a cold, so I'll blame those. still, that tone, wow wow wow!!!
